Leaf Control

Fall lawn care - Mountain State Equipment , Beckley WVAlong with the beauty of fall colors comes the pesky leaves on your lawn. It is important to remove the leaves with a rake, leaf blower, or leaf vacuum to prevent the leaves from suffocating your yard. Mountain State Equipment has a wide range of powered leaf blowers to clear your yard, patio, or driveway.  Backpack Leaf Blowers from Stihl are quiet and efficient for residential areas or even municipalities. Handheld leaf blowers are another great option and are available with either a battery or cord to meet your lawn care needs.  Other important supplies to have on hand are rakes and heavy-duty lawn and leaf bags.

Trimming Trees

You may be tempted to prune your trees and cut some branches in the fall with your Stihl chainsaw. For many trees, fall is not the ideal time to prune branches.  You may check with your local landscaper to see what the best time to prune is for your area and your trees.  Most of the time, the best time to prune your trees will be in the winter or early Spring. In the dead of the winter, the woody plants are still dormant. It is also easier to trim trees in the winter because the leaves have already fallen, making it less clean up easier for you to see what you’re doing.

Pruning Shrubs

Most smaller shrubs and ground cover should get a pruning before the cooler weather hits to prepare them for going to sleep in the winter. Many early spring bloomers (like lilacs and spireas) only need light pruning. Instead of pruning them in the fall, prune them just after they finish blooming, otherwise, they may not bloom next season. For very overgrown deciduous shrubs, pruning in the winter is probably best. Pruners or hedge trimmers from Stihl are known for being powerful but lightweight and quiet.

Power Cleaning

If your patio, deck, or home needs a good power wash, a Stihl pressure washer is a perfect tool for the job.  Pressure washing your home is a great way to winterize it and get the dirt and grime off it before the cold temperatures hit. Mold and mildew can also be common on decking, and snow or ice could amplify the issue. Don’t forget to power wash your gutters to help prevent any freezing issues in the gutters that could cause leakage in your home. Stihl pressure washers come with many different tips and nozzles to meet your cleaning needs.

Prepping the Garden for Next Year

When it is time to till up the garden, make sure you have the right equipment to make the job easy.  A Cub Cadet Garden Cultivator gets the job done quickly and is compact, efficient, and easy to operate. The Cultivator can till through grass, weeds, plants, and soil, giving you fresh soil to work with.

Prepare for Spring

Now is a great time to start making plans for adding color to your yard for spring, such as planting spring-blooming flowers. Tulips, daffodils, lilies, and hyacinths are all great spring choices. If you have any landscaping plans or power tools needs, plan ahead so you can hit the ground running in the spring.
